Front cover mock ups

These are my mock ups and the stages I went though to get to my final piece.

I knew the title, slogan, pattern and colour scheme due to my draft front covers. I had selected the picture used on the front cover, as it reflects my splash on the magazine, which i decided would be about the talent show. I know that the headlines would be placed around the image, but I didn't like how much empty space there was and how the text looked quite boring, although the font was fun, it didn't stand out enough on the page therefore not drawing the readers eye and I also didn't like how the splash was going over the image.

On the second mock up, I decided to put a black outline around the masthead to ensure that it jumped out of the page and instantly draw the eye of the reader. I also moved the masthead more into the middle, as I believed that this would fill in some of the empty space. However there is still a lot of empty space that needs to be filled, as the front cover looks unbalanced. I also moved the splash off the image to ensure that it stood out, but I do not like how this looks as it makes the image look smaller than it actually is.

I added a school name to the magazine to enforce that the magazine is a school magazine, I also moved the mast head back to the left hand side as it left to much empty space around it. The slogan was moved to the right hand side to fill in empty space to try and balance out the magazine. I enlarged the image to ensure that it stood out and instantly caught the eye of the reader. I also added effects to the article, to help them draw the eye of the reader enticing them to the magazine. However although I didn't mind the splash going over the image I didn't like how the headlines were also covering it.

I added a effect to the front cover to try and even out the page, as the top of the page didn't have a lot of things on it and had quite a lot of empty spaces. However I still do not like how the headline if over the image. The cover also needs a logo and price. The empty space at the top is also still an issue.
